Sunday AM ... heat advisory hot so we decide to play outside early this AM, but on our way to the park the kiddos are distracted by a big hairy wolf spider. Sam starts to look for a bug to feed the spider:

7:58 Ferguson kids find a big hairy wolf spider in his web in the corner by the front porch swing.
8:01 Sam finds a carpenter ant down by the sidewalk
8:02 Sam throws the ant into the web
8:04 Spider investigates, runs out, began to circle it
8:10 Ant escapes, three times. Each time Sam catches the ant - placing him back into the web8:14 Spider decides it's time to start spinning a web around the ant, trapping it
8:16 Spider sprints out, Sam slides onto the deck for a closer look, catches his leg under the door slices his calf .... we then move this story to the ER for a few stitches.
Sam's account of events leading up to the stitches, "Once the wolf spider got close enough to the ant while trying to avoid the ants thrashing jaws, the spider reared up and kept striking it's victim, the ant, with it's venom. At this point the ant escaped a few times so I had to keep putting it back into the web. And during the 5th escape I caught the ant, threw it back into the web and as the spider rushed out to investigate, I must have been startled as the spider ran out b/c my leg got caught under the edge of the door and put a pretty good sized slice in my leg. Once my mom saw a few layers of tissue, flesh, fat and muscle sliced wide open, she decided it was a good idea to rush me to the emergency room. At that point, the doctor gave me a few shots and put five stitches in my leg. Mom took me to Dairy Queen since I had to get stitches so that was cool. But now I can't go swimming for a week."
