big brother

Ferglett weekend:

Rob:     "Sam, while I respect your ingenuity, N       O.  You are not making a bayonet out of that."

Sam:     "Madeline QUICK! Keep holding on to the ladder!!!"  (As I'm dashing to the window ... whatintheworld!??!?!?!?!?!??!)

Sam:      "No Noah, you can't hit Madeline because she's a girl. SIGH B-U-T ... you CAN torment her till she says a bad word, then enjoy watching her get soap in her mouth."

Charlotte

So, went outside this morning only to discover that a little spider had been very busy last night!

Now, it wasn't dewy, or misty, or any of those other fabulous beautiful lighting situations mixed with nature. No birds were chirping, nor was there a deer looking lovingly in my direction.

So! Know what I did? Grabbed my spray bottle full of a water/Epsom salt/olive oil concoction that supposedly allows me gorgeous tousled beach hair; and I sprayed that web down. I mean, I started lightly misting it at first to try and get the dewy morning look ... and then I went to the other side and really gave it a good spray down. The kids were giggling and we were trying to imagine what Charlotte would do next time she stepped out onto her front porch, probably slip and slide down her olive-oily back deck. :)

I stopped before I 'weighed' it down (as rain doesn't typically include olive oil or Epsom salt) ... hopefully this won't compromise Charlotte's structure.

So, now you have it. The sun really was perfect, just had to add a little creativity for the rest of the puzzle pieces to fit!

Luke . . .

Trespassing?

Countryside lunch continued ...

Sam, (Matter-of-factly) "That says no trespassing."
Me, "Indeed. But we're not trespassing because we're not going past the fence. This is just fine. We're ALMOST trespassing, but we're not currently trespassing. And we won't be. So lets just sit right here and enjoy."
Madeline (exasperated tone), "Anyway Sam, even if we are it's fine because mom will just tell them that she is a photographer and it's her JOB to trespass and find cool spots. (Dramatic EYEROLL)."

Dove nugget ...

Sam (charging through the back door @ 8:22 this morning - was bike riding): "MOM! Got my breakfast (laughing) !!!"
Me: "Uhm ... what"?
Sam (BB gun in one hand, limp dead dove in the other), See?!
Me: (Dazed and confused, wanting to laugh but furrow my brow because it seems like I should be ... but not quite sure what just happened): "Without touching another single thing, back this whole conversation up onto the deck ... now, what the heck"?!
Sam: "Well, I saw this dove, so I grabbed my bb gun, and shot it, and now I'm going to de-feather it, pop it's breast out, and talk you into cooking it for me, YUM!!!!!!!!!!!"
Me: "YUCK!"
Sam: "YUM!"
Me: "There is probably a season for Dove hunting, and this probably isn't it you know."
Sam: "There is, and I'm now officially a poacher. Gonna turn me in?"
Me: "No. But I'm also not going to touch it."
Sam: "Hmmm. Okay how about this, I will de-feather it, and clean it all up, and you can pretend it's a baby chicken and cook it for me, mmmmmkay? Wait, don't pretend it's a "BABY" chicken, then you'll start feelings sorry for it..."
Madeline: "S-A-M! This is SO GROSS and so SaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaD! Sniff, sniff, sniff!"
Baker: "This is SO COOL!"
Me: Sigh. "Okay. You're doing this all on your own. Once it's all cleaned up, I'll fix it and you can have it with lunch. Deal?"
Sam: : )

*********************************

                  (After lunch)

Me: "So, how was it?"
Sam: "It was one of those things where it smelled better when you were cooking it than it tasted, but it wasn't bad."
Me: "So, worth it?"
Sam: "Yep. Thanks mom!"

Four short/long months

March 22, 2012 was four months ago today.
Sometimes it seems like yesterday.
Today it felt like a life time.
And it sucked.

My mom has been working on all the pictures from both services, the one in Tucson and the one in Iowa. To make a book. A book of memories. I cannot imagine doing this. Just looking through the ones she picked out has sent me into a tail spin. I want to call him and tell him, stuff. When Sam tried out for the play practice the beginning of June he said to one of the judges, "Here, I totally know German, see? Gutentag!!" Grandpa would have gotten THEE biggest kick out of that.

When I took this picture last year, I stopped in the middle of the road. Just stopped driving. I couldn't WAIT to take the picture, and hurry home to email it to him. And this one ----->

Again ... I couldn't wait to take this one of the old Ford and send it to him. ------>

I'm just so mad. I went out into the country about a month ago and nothing looked quite the same. Partly because the Midwest is in a terrible drought. The drought is a perfect example. I miss him calling me to tell me exactly what the weather is doing ... at my house.

I have a wedding shoot next weekend (my first!). It's a few hours north of here.

I already miss the phone call with him on one end with coffee and an atlas, asking me if I'm going to go Highway A or Highway B. Highway A might seem shorter, but my best bet will be Highway B.
Call me when you leave.
Car runs just as good on the top half of empty as it does on the bottom.
And call me when you get there.
Check the air pressure and the oil.
And my beautiful, strong, amazing Grandma.
It is almost as if I love her even more now. I can't imagine that could be possible, my heart is already bursting.

He would have really gotten a big kick out of this one of Madeline ----- > on a zipline a couple weeks ago, into a pond ... w/hay bales, horses, green all around. Yep. He would have had a good chuckle. (We did, I mean look at her! Wheeeee!!!)

And this one. Again, just driving ...  but I know he would like this.

I emailed my Grandma this picture about a week before he died. Sigh. I love this picture, it was a great day. Kite flying and baseball playing, fun all around.
She printed this off from the computer, big 8x10 and color, took it to the hospital with her, and showed it to him.
She said he smiled at Noah's grumpy face.

Time for me to hit the sack, I'm sad with puffy, puffy eyes.
Love you Mom and love you Grandma.
Love you Grandpa.

I was so excited I could barely even handle it.

I told Sam that he was basically living my dream of being in a real flash mob.
He wasn't that impressed.
